Using Google Maps on your Website

Overview

A Google Map is a valuable website feature. It gives people a quick idea of where your business is located and lets them click for detailed information, street views and driving directions. A Map also lends you instant credibility for having a physical business location.

Recently, Google has required those who use Google Maps in websites to have something called an API key. Don’t worry if that sounds like alphabet soup! We can fetch your API key and set it up for you.

But we do have one task for you first. Google also needs your billing information before you can use your Map. Why? Because they charge people to use certain map types and features.

Will I be charged to have a Google Map?

Technically, yes, but it is unlikely to be much. Google will charge a small fee for each time someone views your Map ($.007), which adds up to $7 for each thousand views. They will also give you a $200 monthly credit toward your Map views. This means that you would need to have about 28,000 Map views in a month to incur a charge. You can find detailed information on Google Map pricing here.
